The O2Telefonica is bringing the Campus Party Europe event to London’s O2 (probably still better known as the Millennium Dome) in September, and I’m delighted to announce that I have been chosen as one of the speakers.

Campus Party is generally considered to be one of the world’s most important events in the area of innovation, creativity, science and digital entertainment – and for the first time ever it is bringing to London its unique mix of talks and workshops about the likes of robotics, social media, video games, security, open source software and startups.

As the teaser video says, with 500+ hours of content and many Campuseros (as attendees are called) pitching tents and staying up all night, it can really be considered the “Glastonbury for geeks”:

If you’re lucky enough to be attending the event, you’ll be able to see me give a talk entitled “How Cybercrime Evolved from Back Bedroom Hackers to State-Sponsored Espionage” at 2pm on Tuesday 3rd September, on the Archimedes stage.

(I must admit, I think they missed a trick not putting a talk about malware on the Michelangelo stage, but there you go…)

You can find out more about Campus Party Europe, which takes place between 2-6 September, on the event’s official website.

If I'd known that sooner, I would have come. Maybe even for an autograph.

Tickets are still available I believe. :)

Feel free to bring an autograph book, a napkin, or the back of an old packet of crisps if you want a signature. But I'm not signing body parts any more.

  2. "Michelangelo is a DOS virus that was first discovered in 4 February 1991 in Australia. So named because it shared a birthday with the Renaissance man, the Michelangelo virus was designed to erase information from hard drives on March 6th. The virus was at the center of a wild storm of media-hype (consider it something of a dress rehearsal for Y2K). At one point, a panicked press reported analyst claims that millions of computers had been infected by the thing (led by Jon McAfee founder of the anti-virus corp). The final tally of data loss was closer to 10,000 cases. "
