AVCheck, a malware developer's best friend, has been shut down

For over a decade, AVCheck offered a convenient service: upload your suspicious file, and it would tell you which anti-virus products detected it.

Handy, right? Especially if you’re a malware developer trying to avoid detection.

The site was very careful not to share uploaded files with security vendors. Suspicious? Slightly.

Law enforcement has now shut down AVCheck, which had been quietly enabling cybercriminals to fine-tune their malware for years.

Good riddance.

Oh, and yes, in case you were wondering. AVCheck *is* different from VirusTotal. VirusTotal shares malware samples that are uploaded to it with anti-virus developers, making it really not a great choice for cybercriminals.
